STRIKE TWO:(

Finally after a day of PDA, we were back on the hunt for Big Fish. Cat Island is all about fishing. The marina has 28 slips and it is always full or nearly full of "BIG" sportfishing boats. The one parked on our port side was 74 feet long and the one on our starboard was 68 feet long. These boats usually have a captain and/or a mate hanging around waiting for their owners to show up and go fishing. They are mostly young "hotdogs" with very little to say to us in our lowly 35' Luhrs. There was a sailboat that came in the same day we arrived and he was gone early the next morning. I think he decided Hawks Nest wasn't for him! Most days 6 to 8 boats would venture out starting at about 7AM. Most would return with 2 to 4 Marlin flags flying at the end of the day. This day we decided we better fuel up because we had heard they were getting very low on fuel and were rationing it out at 300 gallons per customer. This got into our fishing time a little but we were soon on our way. In short order we hooked up yet another Marlin....20 or 30 minutes into the fight once again he was GONE :( I am pretty sure I heard Dr. Dave say s*@t and a few other choice words. We were all very disappointed with STRIKE TWO. But, shortly, thereafter the shotgun when whirrrrrrrr AGAIN! We had no idea what we had on because we never saw it jump. Once Dr. Dave got the fish close to the boat all of a sudden we saw varmits flying through the air. We found out what it was as one of them landed in the boat and stuck to Leann's stomach She said she "screamed like a girl" but once we got a look at it anyone would have "screamed like a girl." Leann knocked it loose we got a close up look....SQUID!! This was a first....

That was totally bizarre! But, soon we found out what we had on the line....A 42 pound Yellowfin Tuna!

Back in 2010 Jeannie caught what was the biggest Yellowfin Tuna we have ever had on the boat at 42 pounds so naturally we had to weigh this fish and it was uncanny that it was also 42 pounds. But, Dr. Dave insists it was 42 pounds AND 6 OUNCES! And his words were...."SO TAKE THAT JEANNIE MARIE!" We have been eating on this fish now for several days :)

Leann landed a nice Mahi that we ended up giving to the dockmaster at Hawk's Nest since we had a lifetime supply of Yellowfin in the box....

So "strike two" on the Marlin but the Yellowfin made Dr. Dave and everyone on board FF III very happy :)

  1. I think the scale is rigged, if Dave's weighed 6 oz. more it has to be a good ol' boys conspiracy!!!!!!! Honestly, Congrats.

  2. Yes, Miss Jeannie, I am pretty sure I heard Dave say, "How much was Jeannie's Yellowfin?" :)
