RUM CAY AND THE FULL MOON :(

Rum Cay Marina sustained substantial damage from Hurricane Irene. The worst part is that the entrance to the marina is sanded in making it VERY shallow and VERY narrow. Several markers through a VERY precarious coral bed were also missing. We, therefore, needed to plan our fishing around the tides. So...on Monday we decided to head out in the afternoon. Fishing report was....one Blackfin Tuna and one Skipjack Tuna. Obviously we threw back the Skipjack but CTM actually threw the Blackfin Tuna back....REALLY????? Have we become tuna snobs?????? No fresh sushi that night!!!

An interesting side note is that dinner each night was a potluck at the clubhouse. Everyone brought food to the clubhouse cooked or uncooked and Bobby and his blonde Norwegian live in were our hosts each evening. Bobby was an awesome chef and a sampling of our treats were conch salad, lobster salad, pork wontons, fish balls and spaghetti, and sushi. We contributed fried Snapper with Andy's seasoning (a big hit) and some of our Yellowfin tuna. Bobby is the owner and his family has owned the marina since the 60's. Sound familiar?????

Tuesday we headed out early as we decided to make it a short day so we could tour Rum Cay and maybe drink some rum :) Fishing report was two mahi...small ones...but nonetheless we CAUGHT FISH! There seems to be a general consensus that the full moon affects fishing. The moon was in the first quarter at Cat Island and we had the most incredible fishing there. So now that we have passed the full moon and it is waning we hope fishing will pick up.
