REGENT’S CANAL TOUR

Since this blog is called “Cruising With Captain Morgan and Captain Morgan” we thought perhaps a cruise would be in order.  We met Ian for breakfast at a floating restaurant before our tour of the Regent’s Canal on Saturday...

After plenty of caffeine and carbs we headed over to the tour boat.  Oops....we were told they were called “narrow boats” and NOT tour boats, houseboats , or barges.  See what I mean about narrow...

Our “narrow boat” was named Jason and was built in 1906.  That made him 113 years old!!!!  The only life saving equipment were the life rings on the roof (see pic above).  EEK!!!

We loaded up and soon were off...

Here is our tour guide...Aaron, a swarthy and colorful character...

The narrow boats were used to transport goods.  They were drawn by horses on either side.  There are 30,000 people living on the narrow boats in the canals in London today 😳.  Or as I like to think of it...”The Keys of London!”

There WAS light at the end of the tunnel :)

These narrow boat people were lucky enough to live in a “gated” community 😉

We were told that some of the houses along the canal were worth over 50 million pounds.  And...guess who is a tenant of one of them.  The U.S. Ambassador!  Do you think his rent includes utilities??????

Once our tour ended in Camden we thought it was time for a pint and some shopping.  Guess who did what!  We then headed out to see Ian’s townhouse. You might remember that the 2012 Summer Olympics were held in London.  Well, he is living in one of the buildings that was constructed for the Olympics to house the athletes!!!  By this time it was raining and we were darting from place to place so I didn’t really get any pics.  On a side note....we walked down 94 steps to the London Underground a/k/a The Tube to go to his place.  Here is a map... 🤔 Good thing us old foggies from Missouri didn’t have to try to figure out how to get there.

Couple of more pics from the day...

Catch you on the flip flop...
